Press Release - Nigel Dobson announces he is to stand in Lonan for re-election as a Liberal Vannin Candidate

Publication Date: Wed, 26 Mar 2008

Nigel Dobson has announced that he is to stand in Lonan for re-election to the Board of Commissioners as a Liberal Vannin Candidate.

Nigel, who stood in the last General Election for Garff is Chairman of the Central Branch of Liberal Vannin, a past President of the Rotary Club of Onchan, a member of the L.V.A executive committee and currently Lonan's representative on the Municipal Association.

Nigel said "I am very aware that Lonan is an intimate rural community who in the past have had to look over their shoulders as Government has sought to integrate our Parish with more urban authorities. We must work to protect our independence from future attempts of reform and as such, I firmly believe that we should work toward building on the Garff Initiative. Lonan, Laxey and Maughold working together wherever possible is the best way of providing local services at an affordable cost for our Sheading.

We must also work harder to provide the services our residents want. Plans to provide a play area for our youngest people in Church Close need to be progressed quickly and some of our aging street lighting is not only inefficient but costly to run. A more pro-active approach to providing proper services is something I would encourage".

Party Leader, Peter Karran MHK states "Nigel Dobson will bring not only a wealth of business knowledge to Lonan Commissioners and the Liberal Vannin Party but also the common sense that is so lacking in government that will make him such an asset."
