Stephen and Dot Pitts to stand for the forthcoming council elections

Stephen and Dot Pitts the husband and wife team serving St Georges Ward, have announced their intention to stand for the forthcoming council elections.

Both born and educated in the Isle of Man, married with four children, and are company directors in the painting and decorating firm of Buchanan and Pitts.

Stephen has served the council for many years and has served on most standing committees and was Mayor of the Borough 2001 - 2002.

Dot has represented St Georges ward for four years, during which she has served on the Leisure Services, Policy & Resources, various sub committees and was Mayoress during Stephens’s year in office

They both pledge to continue to promote Douglas. The recent signing of the Cleaner, Safer, Greener, Charter by not only the Town Council but also by Department Ministers, Douglas Development Partnership as well as Fire and Police Services is a step in the right direction, but say “We must not rest on our laurels, there is much to be done to further improve Douglas both for its residents and its visitors”.

They aim to continue to monitor public spending and would try their best to ensure that rates do not rise above the rate of inflation.

There have been many changes in the past few years, hopefully for the better, but there is still much to be done, there needs to be a change in the law to allow the council to deal with dilapidated properties effectively.
“We can only promise one thing, and that is to do our best for Douglas during the next four years”
